Similar to the US Army soldiers families' trepidation at the dreaded call to serve their country's futile interests in the Afghanistan, we, the Software Engineers, suffer from nightmares of being shifted to Chennai. I remember being nerve-racked when speculation was around of joining in Chennai. But, to my delight, I was allocated to NCR.
After wasting 18 months in Gurgaon, I was asked to go to Chennai. In times of recession, one can't argue with his manager. Thinking this, I courageously went to Chennai.
No doubt, Chennai has humid weather everyday. One saves a lot of money in not buying winter apparels. Apart from that, I believe Chennai is the best place to work for a Software professional. Dearth of distractions in the town and scorching heat and humidity may assist the mind to work 7 days a week. The conservative mindset and the cultural heritage do strengthen values and belief in basic Indian philosophy.
About the differences in NCR and Chennai style of work, I can assuringly say that employees in Chennai are more professional than that at NCR. Here, every employee is wearing the ID tag all the time. In NCR, I could see there were only 5-10% employees wearing the tag.
I was monitored closely in NCR, because my manager had the ample time to peep and ensure that I was not wasting my time. In Chennai, nothing of that sort happens. Everybody is committed to his task and no extra bullying is solicited from the management. This has given me confidence to perform better. Thanks to the Chennai Admin; the food tastes great and the vending machines are replaced by traditional tea/coffee makers.
