Enter Jan 2009, I got an unprecedented opporunity. Driven by circumstances, I was called on to train some resources(as we call employees in IT). Having minimal experience of facing audiences, I wondered how to keep them busy for 9X6 hours. The challenge was daunting since I used to prefer silence to speech. I had to shed hesitation and imbibe interactive skills.
Communication skills as we call it, comprises meaningful interaction with focus on disseminating knowledge amongst all participants. The starting lectures were scratchy, with people being sceptic about my credentials. But as days progressed, I gained confidence and started enjoying the classes. I took role more as a facilitator, encouraged participation and gave personal attention. I also made some learnings and interspersed them innovatively with basic concepts and presented to the audience. Disregarding the standard diagrams, I gambled to make architectures based on my understanding. Any error could be spotted by the audience or me and we could agree on a particular approach. This conviction convinced the listeners and they could feel the effort.
The idea of the training was to make everyone comfortable to work at a product. Judging by the 88% approval rating by the participants, I have done my job.
